One Line Summary: Girl loves boy and becomes what boy is.
I picked this one up for the cover alone! I thought it was fantastic! Does it live up to its cover?....
We join Grace Divine. She's the perfect daughter to her preacher father, goody-goody brother Jude. Their family took in Daniel a few years ago her brother's best friend and the boy she's always had a crush on. Until one night Jude comes back covered in blood and Daniel has disappeared. But nobody talks about that night. We jump ahead three years when Grace happens to run into Daniel at school and everything changes.
I really enjoyed the interesting plot line. The ending definitely had a twist, which really made the rest of the book, at least for me, a lot better. I'm really looking forward to the next in the series due out later this year.
Grace was a bit too good for me; I like my heroes a bit more on the human and edgy side. But Daniel was a bad boy without being too bad like stalking and abusing his supposed love. But overall the characters were interesting.
The author also brings a lot of Christian themes into the novel with forgiveness and redemption and the worth of souls.
Overall, I enjoyed it for a fun and fast read, but it wasn't the greatest novel ever.
Rating: 3.5/5
And now onto my giveaway!!!!!!!!! The author Bree Despain is a local of mine and she was signing books on Friday and so I decided to pick up an extra signed copy to give away! She's really friendly and had some good goodies to give away. I got some book cover stickers and bookmarks and even some nail polish in the book cover's violet! I love meeting authors! It's so exciting.

Ooh, I'm the first! Probably doesn't bode well, actually, because how many times is #1 picked, but hey. Shows I keep up with ya. I'm really unsure of whether I will like this, but I find myself intrigued by it none the less. Hmmm...

ReplyDeleteI think my favorite cover recently was Hush, Hush - I brought it just because I loved the cover but didn't find the story was as good as I hoped it would be. I didn't hate it but I didn't love it as much as I expected to.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't mention if the giveaway is international or not but if it is I'd love to enter (I'm in the UK)

As for covers living up (or not)... I really loved the cover for Mr. Darcy Broke my Heart by Beth Patillo. The book was good too, but the cover did not go with the story ~ She never dressed up and then walked barefoot through a park. It was a nice image... but it wasn't one from the book. I think they could have chosen one that fit the book and still been really nice.
That didn't make me like the book any less.
I love the cover too! The most recent one I can think of is Saving CeeCee Honeycutt and yes, the story lived uo to the beautiful cover.

I love so many covers, but the one that stands out for me is, Iron King. Unfortunately, I haven't read it yet. :-(

I'd love to be entered for this! One of my favorite recent bookcover was Pretty Monsters by Kelly Link. It was creepy/cool, and the colors were absolutely perfect. And the stories were VERY creepy, but also fabulous, so they matched.
ReplyDelete+1 I believe I am a follower - but I can't check right now in Blogger. If I'm not, I will come back and become one!

Fav book covers: Tithe by Holly Black, and yes, the book was awesome! All of the Twilight book covers, and even though I'm not a Twilight fanatic, I did enjoy the books. All of Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruments series, which I LOVED. And of course the Harry Potter series, which are my favorite books of all time.
Thanks for the entry!

Another thing about covers...I hate it when they re-use them and think we won't notice! =)
Have a great day!
I love the cover for 'Fallen' but haven't read it yet to know if it lives up to the beautiful cover. It's on its way from Amazon though! :)
