Favorite Childhood-themed horror film:
Tagline: It doesn't think. It doesn't feel. It doesn't give up.
For nineteen-year-old Jay, Autumn should be about school, boys and week-ends out at the lake. But after a seemingly innocent sexual encounter, she finds herself plagued by strange visions and the inescapable sense that someone, something, is following her. Faced with this burden, Jay and her friends must find a way to escape the horrors, that seem to be only a few steps behind.
This is a beautiful horror film on the ultimate experience of becoming an adult--sex. Jay and her friends are on that cusp of becoming adults and this movie becomes the metaphor of all of the feelings that becoming an adult can be. It's layered. It has so much to say but this is the ultimate coming-of-age horror that continues to stick with me.

Horror film you most relate to:
Tagline: Where there is imagination, there is darkness and from within that darkness lurks a being of unfathomable terror ... close to home.
Synopsis:
A single mother and her child fall into a deep well of paranoia when an eerie children's book titled "Mister Babadook" manifests in their home.
I had a very emotional reaction to this film. Not only was it just a super scary but it was a visceral take on how difficult being a parent can be. I had post-partum depression of my son was born and I could relate to so many elements of this film. It's also a meditation on grief and how we deal and move through it. So many elements here that are worth revisiting time and again.

Both really great movies, though I prefer It Follows. Just a brilliant horror concept in that movie. Something which has never been done. Great choices!
ReplyDeleteThey're both great in different circumstances. Love them both though.
DeleteLove both your choices!
