Movie Review: Sense & Sensibility (2007)

Sense & Sensibility (2007), Grade: A

I love this version! I thought it was another great adaptation. This one is a bit longer than the Emma Thompson version so they were able to flesh out the characters a lot better. Though, I did miss Mr. Palmer in this one. Hugh Laurie was sooo wonderful.

I thought the actresses were well suited for the parts, you know, being younger than their previous counterparts! I'm wondering why they always feel that Marianne needs to be blond since she's supposed to be darker in the novel? The fencing duel between Willoughby and Colonel Brandon was very divine as well!

Both adaptations are spectacular! Give this one a try as well!

  1. I love this version too. Hattie Morahan as Elinor was brilliant. Glad you enjoyed it.

  2. Just saw this myself and enjoyed it very much, though I agree with you on the lack of the Palmer element - too bad! Laurie is amazing, especially when he's playing a cranky character.

    Great review!

  5. This film isn't in my list for the challenge but I've been wanting to watch. I think I will after this review :)

I'm a big fan of the Ang Lee version, though.

  7. This is such a fun version of S&S. I loved seeing the bits that were hinted at in the book, but never really talked about, like the duel.
