Movie Reviews: Confessions of a Shopaholic and Inkheart

Confessions of a Shopaholic, Grade C

Why can't Hollywood make any decent romantic-comedies anymore? It's pretty clean cut, but that's about all it has going for it. It's a bit too cutesy for me and the acting is sub-par. And I thought the treatment of consumer debt was dealt with a bit too lightly. She lied and schemed all to hide her shopping addiction. But in the end she got the guy and cleared up her debt. What more could ask for?? Woops, I guess that's a spoiler. You don't even need to watch it now!

Inkheart, Grade B

I haven't read the book so I don't know how it compares, but I've heard the book was pretty good. I can't say the same for the movie. It's worth a look; it's a fun and interesting story, but I think the editor lost some of the movie along way. Just too many disjointed scenes that were a bit confusing. The story bringing characters to life from books just by reading aloud is a pretty cool idea. I'll have to give the book a try.

  1. I haven't read any of these Shopaholic books, but I learned that I must be missing out on some summer reads with the Stephanie Plum series. Have you read any of them?

BTW...I added a slideshow to my book blog of my TBR list of books. So much yum yum out there. Where does the time go. Kim

  2. I really hated Inkheart, I, too, haven't read the books. But I was really intrigued by the idea of the story and the movie trailer caught my interest. Plus I loved Brendan Fraser in the Mummy movies. But this was just boring - I had to make myself watch it because I figured I bought it on PPV. At least I didn't buy it. But I think I still might read the book. I thought that the one thing this movie had going for it was Paul Bettany - he really stole the show in my opinion.

  3. You know, I felt the same way about Shopaholic! I liked the movie enough that I wasn't sorry I went to see it in the theater but at the same time I'm not going to buy it so I can watch it over and over again. Everything was kind of breezed over and I think they could have gone more into depth on some of the subjects. Isla Fisher is adorable so I loved seeing her but the plot line was just a bit too shallow.
