Well, I'm coming out of my hidey hole for a bit this month...It's October and that means Halloween! I love Halloween and Misty over at Book Rat is hosting Helluva Halloween for the second time. It was fantabulous last year and am looking forward to it again this month! She has a lot of fun stuff planned so check it out. As part of the festivities, I thought I would contribute to the fun. I won an advanced reading copy of The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and the Undead by Don Borchert. It was a fun a zombie take on a classic! I am willing to part with it! All you need to do is:
1. Leave your name and email address in the comments section.
2. Tell me what Halloween-y type books you are planning on reading this month.
3. For extra credit (an extra entry), tell me why you love Halloween (favorite memories, traditions, costumes, etc). I just love hearing about why people love this awesome holiday and what fun things people do to celebrate. you don't need to, but if you want, I'd love to know.
The giveaway will run from October 1-9th 12 midnight MST. Giveaway open to everyone. I (or my 20-month-old son) will randomly choose a name out of a hat sometime Sunday morning and I will announce the winner either that night or Monday. You will be notified by email. So join the scary fun! And thanks for participating!
GIVEAWAY NOW CLOSED!!!!
Love this idea, and the book sounds very interesting. I enjoyed "Abe Lincoln, Vampire Hunter" as well.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading "Witches, Wenches and Wild Women of Rhode Island" as one of my Halloween reads this year.
My daughter and I love Halloween, especially seeing the little ones in costume and the different, creative jack o'lanterns around. It's a relaxed atmosphere, very happy and upbeat without a lot of pressure.
oops, and you can reach me at esmith401@gmail.com.
ReplyDeleteI have a post about your contest scheduled to go up at midnight tonight (so 10/2)! Yay, and welcome to Helluva Halloween!!!

Tom Sawyer & zombies!! What an awesome mash-up :)
For the month of October, I am planning on reading Wicked Lovely and Feed (if I can find a copy).
Currently, I'm nose-deep in The Host.
+1 I love Halloween because I can be as silly/creative/freaky as I please. Years ago, I even got MARRIED on Halloween LOL
This year I'll be dressing up as a zombie & teepeeing everybody. Gotta start stocking up on the ol' Charmin ;D
Actually I have been saving Pride and Prejudice and Zombies to read over Halloween.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway and for opening it up to worldwide entries.

This book sounds really interesting! Thank you for introducing it!
ReplyDeleteAnd I'm hoping to be able to sink my teeth into either (or probably both)
Bloodthirsty by Flynn Meaney
and/or
iDrakula by Bekka Black
:)
I love Halloween mainly because of all the candy, though to dress up as a werewolf or vamp is great too (they're both awesomely strong). But sadly it isn't celebrated in my country, so my friends and I do what we can to make the day a hit!
Thank you for the chance!

And now for extra credit--not that I wouldn't have told you, anyway, because I love the Halloweens of my childhood . . .
My village had a big Halloween party every year (and still does!) and I never failed to take home an award for my costume. It started with my pirate costume, from a year before pirates were common. And then I was a mime, and so on . . .
A few years of that, the judges started to notice I kept winning and were bumping me down to second or third place (or so I imagined!); and I had to get more creative. I ended up winning Scariest Costume two years in a row, thanks first to a witch mask that totally obscured my face and then to my Headless Horseman costume, which hid my whole head!
Ah, to be young again on Halloween . . . !
Now that I'm old, I just read Horror novels. =P I'm not sure if this counts as "Halloween-y," but I'm planning on catching up on my Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King. The Fall of the House of Usher is next on my list. =)
Thanks, Gofita!
